The boys went to the Father and Sons camp out this weekend so I thought I would take advantage of it and have a girl's night with my sister and niece. we painted our nails, dressed up in really ugly dresses that my sister got at a thrift store and wore tiaras and boas. Then we watched girlie movies. It was a good night. I'm not much of a girlie girl but my niece, Jenni, is so we went along with it. However, just a little while before it was time for the boys to leave, we made a last minute decision to head about an hour away to look at some puppies we found on Craig's List. We had talked a little bit during the week about getting another puppy. All of our pets are geriatric. Our black lab Acey is 10, our cat Con is 9, and Our oldest cat, Dolby is 13. Dolby is going to have to be put to sleep next week (Dustin doesn't want me to talk about it anymore. It should have been done a long time ago and I've been planning this for a couple weeks. It will be a really sad day, but he's just not a healthy cat anymore and has no quality of life).
Anyway, when we went camping back in April we met a family that had an older dog and a puppy. They said that the puppy had actually extended the life of their older dog by making it play. It made us start thinking and then one day Dustin ran across an ad for yellow lab puppies. We talked about it for a while and then we found the ad for our puppy and they sent us a picture. We just knew it was the perfect dog for our family. We went out to look at them and the man we got her from said that she was ready to go and that they had been feeding them milk (which gives them diarrhea) and that she could go home any time. It turns out she is a little young to leave her mom. She is only 4 weeks old, but does eat puppy food when I mix it with water (one part puppy food, three parts water). We also bought her puppy formula which she loves. Luckily I looked it up online, and puppies are ready to wean at 4 weeks, and the formula I bought is for puppies ages 4-6 weeks.
She is very much a baby. She sleeps a lot and wants to be held a lot. Luckily for us, there are no shortage of holders in our house. We're pretty sure Benjamin is convinced that our new puppy is just his. He holds her the most. We have never seen him hold more still. he'll sit for an hour with her on his lap and smile and kiss her. Benjamin even shared his Lovey with her, and anyone that knows Benjer, knows that this is a big deal! It's too cute. Britton is really excited for when she's a little older and can play with him and he can walk her. We're lucky in that we can tell when she needs to go to the bathroom. She'll want to get off of one of our laps! That's our cue to get her outside. She has some soft blankets for her kennel that she likes to snuggle with and one of the feather boas from girl's night. In about two weeks she is going to be a little bundle of energy and we are going to wonder were our little cuddly bundle went. Our name for her is to come. We're still a bit undecided.
