Today is a sad day at our house. Our oldest cat, Dolby, was put to sleep. We had the boys say good-bye last night. This afternoon I took the boys to play with a friend and then I came home and got Dolby ready. I had given him a sedative so he wouldn't be scared. Dolby was a very large cat. My sister brought me a pet carrier last weekend so I would be able to transport him to the vet. Unfortunately, Dolby wouldn't fit in the carrier. So instead I put a blanket in the bottom of a laundry basket. He crawled out of the basket in the car and rode in my lap on the way to the vet. he was very calm. When we got there I stayed with them as they gave him a sedative to go to sleep, and then the medication to stop his heart. It was much harder than I thought it would be. Dolby has been sick for a very long time, but it was still hard to do. I was happy that he looked very peaceful and wasn't scared. He even purred for me while we waited.
We got Dolby right after we were married. He was like our first child. He comforted us as we found out we couldn't have biological children and he was there to welcome each of our boys home when they came. Dolby had the softest fur and the loudest purr. We will miss all of his sweet qualities and his cute little face.
