Caden is an adventurous child who is always on the move. He is also very accident prone. When he is mad, he purposely bangs his head on the ground or the wall so he has a perpetual bump on his forehead, usually in the same spot. While camping he took a fall and scrapped up his forehead, and when he got back he was sword fighting with Benjamin and got wacked in the forehead and got a nice cut. This week he was looking pretty abused.
Thursday night Caden climbed onto our dining room table and fell off cutting his head. It wasn't a very big cut but it was gaping so I took him to the urgent care to have it looked at. (Meanwhile, Britton saw the blood and was near fainting. I don't think he's going to have a career in the medical field.) Britton waited in the waiting room while Caden, Benjamin and I went with the doctor to have Caden's head looked at. They were able to fix the cut with some medical super glue and we were in and out in about 30 minutes.
The next day (Friday) Caden seemed really sore. Every time we picked him up or set him down he winced with pain. We thought it was just from the pressure on his head or from his cut. It wasn't until Friday night that we figured out that it was somehow connected with his arm. Saturday (today) Caden woke up much happier and seemed to feel a lot better. He winced a little but not nearly as badly as before acted like his normal self. His cut looked really good too. Well, after changing his diaper I noticed he couldn't roll over on one side. He wanted to, but couldn't. We decided he better go back to the doctor. It turns out when he fell that he also broke his collar bone. The first doctor he saw at the urgent care treated his head wound but didn't actually check any other part of his body. The poor kid! They told us to put him in a sling, which is easier said than done. We got one but it is still too big and it is the smallest size they make. I sewed some modifications onto it tonight so we're hoping it will work better in the morning. Caden gets to see a specialist next week, but that is just for follow up. The treatment isn't really any different.
Apparently nobody told Caden he has a broken bone because he is still climbing on everything he can find and not slowing down at all. We are really hoping he heals quickly and we don't have any more urgent care or hospital visits in the future.
